In 1974 Steve Miller Band had a hit with The Joker, Mel Brook’s Blazing Saddles was tops at the box office, Gerald Ford had just taken office, and pizza and beer were cheap. This Saturday, in honor of the year the very first Mellow Mushroom opened in Atlanta, Mellow Mushroom Avondale will be turning the clocks back — way back — to 1974 with an all-day party to celebrate its four-year anniversary in West Ashley.
Mellow Mushroom Avondale will host its annual Disco Brunch on Saturday, March 21 and customers are encouraged to dress up in disco outfits while enjoying Mellow Mushroom favorites at a serious bargain. With 1974 prices between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. you can relive those good ol’ days with large cheese pizzas for only $5.50 and domestic beer cans will be available for $1.75. You can also order a small cheese pizza for $3.50 and iced tea for a quarter.
Attendees are also encouraged to arrive early, not only to guarantee getting their food for a steal, but also for a chance to win free pizza for a year. The first 100 people in the door will receive a mystery envelope, each offering a Mellow prize, but only one lucky winner will be surprised with the grand prize of enjoying Mellow Mushroom on the house for an entire year.
After a brief intermission to recover, the party will restart at 8 p.m. and continue into the night. Karaoke Chris will be there to lead guests in Flip Cup Karaoke. A simple and hilarious game. As the name suggests, the competition includes a round of Flip Cup before karaoke where the losers will sing the song of the winning team’s choosing. Attendees will also be able to indulge in shots from a disco-inspired ice luge, drink specials, and the full Mellow Mushroom menu.
Mellow Mushroom is located at 19 Magnolia Road. Admission all day and night is free. For more information please visit their Facebook event page at www.facebook.com/events/684050265074708
