In honor of National Poetry Month, Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School held it’s 11th annual Poetry Slam on April 23 and 24. More than 60 students submitted original poems, memorized them, and performed them before a panel of judges.
Students were judged on use of language and punctuation, style, rhythm, speech, and overall presentation. Judges selected five first place winners, and 15 honorable mentions. All 20 students traveled to the Barnes & Noble in West Ashley to perform their poems on Tuesday, April 29 before parents, friends, and Barnes & Noble customers.
First Place winners were as follows: Jack Beaudrot, Hannah Pulaski, Lauren Huser, Esther Adelson and Thomas Abraham. Honorable Mentions were: Haze Marchant, Finn Haze, Anna Marchant, Savannah Pegram, Bailey Blevins, Keith Pulaski, Ronald Jenkins, Eliana Gross, and Ricky Dillard.
