Where do wild things run? At Caw Caw Interpretive Center! The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission (CCPRC) hosts its third annual Where the Wild Things Run 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, April 25.
Nature lovers get a little slice of heaven as they make their way through the trails of the beloved Caw Caw Interpretive Center, which is known for its wildlife. Runners and walkers of this 5K will be rewarded with beautiful vistas and hopefully a sighting of a “wild thing” or two.
Caw Caw Interpretive Center is a 654-acre site in Ravenel that is rich in natural, cultural and historical resources. The scenic park features over seven miles of trails with trailside exhibits, elevated boardwalks through wetlands, historic rice fields, a former tea farm, wildlife habitats, and more.
The race will begin at Caw Caw Interpretive Center at 8:30 a.m. on April 25. An award ceremony with light food and beverages will be held following the race. T-shirts are guaranteed for participants who have register prior to April 17. The 5K run and walk is for ages 10 and up. Ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone; however, chaperones do not require registration or participation in the race. Dogs are not allowed at Caw Caw.
Free kids’ activities will also take place at this year’s race, offering parents participating in the race a great opportunity to keep the little ones educated and entertained during the run or walk! Kids’ yoga and crafts will take place throughout the morning. A miniature horse from LEARN Horse Rescue will also be on site for meet and greets with children. And new this year, a special one-mile kids’ fun run will take place at 9:30 a.m. These activities are appropriate for ages 12 and under. Ages 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Online registration for Where the Wild Things Run is open now through 3 p.m. on April 24. If spaces are still available, late registration will be held on race day from 7-8 a.m. Registration fees are $34. Residents of Charleston County receive a discounted fee of $28 when registering in advance. Register for the Where the Wild Things Run 5K Run and Walk online at CharlestonCountyParks.com/WTWTR or call 795-4386.
This 5K is another in a series of trail runs offered this year by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC). CCPRC recently hosted the Mullet Haul 5 and 10-mile trail run at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. The agency will also host the Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center in October.
Caw Caw Interpretive Center is located at 5200 Savannah Hwy.  For more information on CCPRC races and other events, visit CharlestonCountyParks.com.
