Next weekend marks the fifth anniversary of one of West Ashley’s favorite annual family-friendly fun-runs, the Avondale 5K.
Last year, more than 400 runners took part, and a host of local businesses chipped in, with proceeds going to benefitting the West Ashley-based  Charles Webb Center.
Close to $60,000 was raised for the daycare, which has been providing services for local kids with special needs and disabilities since 1928.
The race will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, and will start and end at Triangle Char and Bar on Savannah Highway, where it intersects with Magnolia Road.
Runners can turn into revelers at the finish line, where Triangle will also be hosting a fun after-party immediately following the race. Runners will be timed via chips, and there will be prizes for category winners.
The course will once again wind through the nearby neighborhoods and will begin at 8:30 a.m. Day-of registration will open that morning at 6:45 a.m., and early packet pickup will be held at Triangle from 4-7 p.m.
T-shirts will be given to those who register in advance, and day-of as long as supplies last. Early registration is $35, but the price goes up the longer you dawdle.
Dogs and strollers are welcomed, and local businesses or local philanthropists can donate directly to the center via the race, or sponsor a child.
