Last week dozens of West Ashley residents attended workshops and information sessions during a three-day planning exercise at St. Andrews Middle School. The public planning workshop was organized jointly by the City of Charleston and Charleston County planning departments to help create a neighborhood plan for the vicinity of Dupont Road, Wappoo Road, and Savannah Highway that is cohesive with the greater West Ashley area.
At different sessions held on June 9-11, planners, designers, and consultants on the charrette team asked community members for input on land use, multi-modal transportation improvements, and drainage, as well as design and development standards.
A wrap-up presentation will be held Tuesday, June 23 at St. Andrews Middle School auditorium, located at 721 Wappoo Road. At this meeting the results of the charrette will be presented along with planning recommendations and next steps.
