August 22 | DRUG VIOLATION
Police ticketed a driver who had parked his car in a handicap spot in front of an Old Towne Road store for possession of marijuana. An officer had just exited the store and noticed that the car didn’t have handicap tags, and went to go ask the driver if he or his passenger were handicapped. Neither was, but the driver continued to hold onto a crumpled paper towel as the smell of marijuana emanated from inside the car. The driver, answering slowly, said he was in possession of the drug, and that he was holding what turned out to be 2 grams of marijuana in the crumpled paper towel. A search of the car turned up nothing else, the drug was confiscated, and the driver ticketed and was allowed to leave.
August 22 | DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A Dogwood Road resident told police that her ex-boyfriend had placed both of his hands around her neck and threatened to kill her and keep their infant child. The woman had recently moved out and was returning to their formerly shared apartment to retrieve their 4-month-old child. In doing so, the woman said she told her ex-boyfriend that under state law, she had more custodial rights to the child than he did. She said this enraged him and her attacked her, saying “I will kill you and run away with the baby.” The woman left and the ex-boyfriend soon returned the child to her at a friend’s residence.
August 22 | BURGLARY, BREAKING AND ENTERING
A West Oak Forest Road man told police that someone had burgled his house, making off with close to $20,000 in items including car amps, computers, and cash. The man’s daughter had returned from school and noticed the front door ajar, and she immediately called her father. When the man arrived he found the air-conditioning unit from a rear window of the house had been pulled out.

A Goose Creek business owner told police that a fraudulent check drawn on his business had been cashed for close to $2,000 at a Magwood Drive bank. The man had recently discovered that three checks were missing from his business checkbook. Only one other one has been recovered.
August 22 | DEATH INVESTIGATION
Fire and police responded to a Duffers Court apartment after a physical therapist visited her client there, spied the client through the window “slumped over” the toilet, unresponsive. After forcing entry into the residence, paramedics were able to establish the resident was in fact deceased.
August 22 | SHOPLIFTING
Police cited a woman at an Ashley Crossing Drive department store for shoplifting for trying to be reimbursed for an item she had not paid for – a tan pair of Assets Red Hot Top Spanx. The store’s loss prevention officer said the woman had placed the Assets Red Hot Top Spanx into a suitcase of items she was trying to return for cash. When she denied money for the Assets Red Hot Top Spanx, the woman left the store with the Assets Red Hot Top Spanx still in her suitcase, and was stopped. After citing her and putting her on a no-trespass for the store, police allowed her to leave as her 15-year-old child was waiting in her car, and she had no prior arrests
August 23 | SEX OFFENSE/FORCIBLE RAPE
A local woman told police that she had been raped at an unknown West Ashley hotel in July. She said after the event, she returned home before going to a local hospital for a sexual assault forensic exam. She met with police last week to ask that the results of the test be used in an official report
August 24 | GENERAL INFORMATION
A S. Lenevar Drive grandmother reported to police that her granddaughter, daughter, and three other females got into a fight. Apparently the three females had been in an earlier altercation with the juvenile granddaughter, and went to a local restaurant to confront her about comments made in its aftermath. The mother intervened and said to come to her house and talk things over. The three females reported that the daughter and granddaughter began to throw things at their car when they arrived at the house, and shattered the windshield with several punches. The granddaughter claimed she told the other females to leave them alone on the way back from the restaurant. She also claimed that the car with the three females tried to drive over her and mother in their driveway. Police soon arrived and order was restored.
August 24 | SIMPLE ASSAULT
A nurse at a West Ashley mental unit told police that a patient punched him twice in the face after he tried to get the patient to return to his room. The patient also knocked over some medical equipment before he was pinned to the wall and staff could arrive to calm the situation.
August 25 | BURGLARY, BREAKING AND ENTERING
A Proximity Drive woman told police that she believed her recent ex-roommate might have stolen $450 in tactical military duty gear from her apartment. Returning from a weeklong military leave, the woman found that she was now missing a black tactical vest carrier, a drop M-9 holster, a black duty belt with a baton holder, a Taser holder, magazine holders, handcuffs carrier, handcuff keys, and a glove pouch and gloves. No ammunition or weapons were in the holsters or carriers.
