The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.

Simple assault
A middle school student reported a fight breaking out at school bus stop so intense that not even adults, apparently including a police officer, could break it up. The student told police that another student grabbed their music case at the bus stop, causing a flute to fall out and the student to begin to cry. The two students came to blows and adults were unable to intervene successfully, including an off-duty officer who attempted to handcuff one of the students.

General information
Police responded to a complaint at a Savannah Highway motel, where a woman said her boyfriend had blocked her from leaving their room, and then began throwing items around the room. A friend picked up the woman in the parking lot, where she managed to call 911. Police soon found the man walking along the highway, lethargic with eyes dilated. The man said he was distraught about the argument with his girlfriend, who wanted to end the relationship, and said, “I want to jump into traffic in front of a vehicle.” The man added that he’d already spent a half-hour on a bridge talking with authorities that convinced him not to jump.
November 4 Forgery
A Charlie Hall Boulevard doctors’ office reported a series of fraudulent checks had been discovered totaling more than $2,500 over a three-month period. Ranging from just over $50 to more than  $700, the checks had been written to businesses and individuals.

Intimidation
Police responded to a barbershop on Ashley River Road where a woman said her ex-boyfriend had threatened her earlier at her and her daughter’s nearby apartment. The woman said she had lived with the man for four years until recently, when she had the man evicted. The man had recently shown up at the apartment and demanded to remain in her and her daughter’s lives, but left once she called the police. The man had since sent a series of threatening messages, including one where he said he would “put down” the woman and her family.

General information
A West Ashley mother reported that her juvenile son had begun to receive text messages on his cell phone asking for pictures of his genitals. The mother texted the number to ask who was sending the messages, which promptly stopped the messaging. The son said he’d been playing an online video game that had “in-game chat capability,” so he had no idea who’d been requesting the photos.

Larceny through false pretenses
A Savannah Highway rent-to-own store attempted to retrieve from a local pawnshop a laptop computer it had rented earlier to a local woman. The woman had paid the half of the first month’s rent on the laptop, and then never responded to requests for more payments. The woman’s mother-in-law informed the store the computer had been pawned at a downtown store.
November 5
Motor vehicle theft
A Savannah Highway car dealership reported two expensive used vehicles had been stolen during the night. A review of security cameras showed three men entering an unlocked car parked between the other two vehicles, and the men exiting the car and getting into a sedan and an SUV, and then driving off in opposite directions.
