The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
June 3 | Murder
Officers responded to an Avalon Circle home to assist other agencies after a 40-year-old man was found dead in the driveway. Officers found the man, who had been shot, face down and unresponsive. An investigation continues.
June 3 | Sexual offense
A woman called police from a hotel to allege that her husband had been sexually abusing her for months at their West Ashley home while she had been sleeping. She claimed to have recently found videotapes of her husband’s alleged actions. Police reviewed the tapes, gave the woman a business card, and commenced an investigation.
June 3 | Injured party
Workers at a rental office of a Bluewater Way apartment complex called police to say that a mentally unstable man was threatening them. When police arrived, they found the man yelling “hysterically” out the front door of the office. When the man stepped outside to speak to police, the employees locked the office door. The man demanded officers give him “the answers or you all are going to die.” For 30 minutes, police tried to calm the man, who alternately deescalated and resumed screaming and charging the officer. The man repeatedly pointed his finger at his head and yelled, “Shoot me! Shoot me!” Once at the hospital, the man asked an officer to shoot him in the head and to “do it painlessly.”
June 3 | General information
Administrators at a West Ashley elementary school called police after two adults became embroiled in a fistfight during the school’s graduation program. The fight was described as “chaotic,” with many punches thrown.
June 3 | Vandalism
A Dogwood Road mother and daughter reported that someone had thrown a brick through the front window of their apartment. The duo said they suspected that a North Charleston woman had thrown it, because she was angry that the mother was dating her ex-boyfriend. While the officer was there, the duo showed police a recent Facebook post from the other woman, whom they didn’t see throw the brick, that read there was police present where she was, so she was heading to a nearby Wal-Mart.
June 4 | Shoplifting
Police arrested a woman at a West Ashley superstore for allegedly shoplifting $262 of items. The woman told police she had forgotten to pay for the items, but had already offered to pay for the items. But she added, she wouldn’t be able to pay for the items until next week.
June 4 | Simple assault
A man living at an Ashley River Road apartment complex called to complain that a few days ago a woman had “kneed me in the balls real hard.” The man said he had been at another woman’s 50th birthday celebration and had decided to repeatedly “photo bomb” peoples’ pictures. This apparently angered the women at the party, especially the one who grabbed him by the shoulders and force her knee into his crotch. The man denied having any bruising or external wounds. The man was able to show police a picture of the woman, as they are still Facebook friends.
June 4 | Shoplifting
Police confronted a man at his nearby house after he allegedly shoplifted a handful of items from a Savannah Highway convenience store. An employee told police that the man had come into the store and began to shove snack items down the front of his pants, including a Slim Jim meat stick and a Big Mama pickled sausage. The man was arrested and given a $2,000 ticket.
