The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
January 6 | Intimidation
A manager at an Orleans Road convenience store called police to report a man had threatened to rob his store. Police soon found a man fitting the description the manager gave near the store. While being handcuffed, the man told an officer, “I didn’t threaten that [expletive] dude, all I said was [expletive] you and your store and threw .50 cents at him, that’s all.”
January 6 | Simple Assault
A White Oak Drive woman called police after her ex-boyfriend allegedly kicked in the door of her apartment. The woman said she had invited the man over for a Chinese food dinner with her and her daughter, so he could gather more of his belongings after their recent split. After dinner, the woman helped the man carry out some of his stuff, and the two became embroiled in an argument after she said he couldn’t spend the night. The woman said she backed away from the man, closing the front door to avoid further escalation, but the man kicked in the door and allegedly began to choke her. The man was arrested on the scene.
January 7 | Missing Person
The brother of a mentally ill man called police after the man had been missing for more than 24 hours. The man usually takes long walks to nowhere in particular, but knows his address and always finds his way back. The man was described wearing a hooded Field and Stream jacket, fleece pants, dark hair, and no teeth.
January 7 | Forgery Counterfeit
The manager of an Albemarle Road restaurant management company informed police that two fraudulent $300 company checks had been cashed in Goldsboro, N.C., to two different men there. According to the manager, her company never wrote those checks and has no idea how the men came into possession of them.
January 8 | Intimidation
A woman being picked up by her boyfriend at a West Ashley medical facility reported getting into an intense argument recently. In the parking lot of the facility, she said her boyfriend yelled at her to “get out,” and after she exited the minivan, he drove very close to her. She said he then began tearing around the parking lot, coming back to yell at her, “I’m going to kill you, I’m going to shoot you,” and spit on her several times. Since the incident, she said the man has been trying to call her on her phone, and then through her job.
January 8 | Shoplifting
An employee at a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard jewelry store reported showing two expensive gold chains to a male customer. Suddenly, the customer snatched the two chains and ran out of the store. The two chains were valued at a combined $4,100. The employee told police that the store has no video cameras.
January 8 | All other Larceny
A Lantana Drive man told police that he was awakened in the middle of the night by a sound outside his house. When he went outside, he saw that his white box trailer had been attached to a stranger’s vehicle and was being pulled out of his neighborhood. The man said the trailer contained a host of expensive lawn equipment, including a $10,000 riding mower.
