The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.

An officer working speed limit enforcement near the intersection of Savannah Highway and Magnolia Road clocked a car travelling 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the car pulled over, the driver couldn’t find his state driver’s license, but did have slurred breath and $5 worth of marijuana in the car.

Simple assault
A resident at a Hazelwood Drive apartment complex was severely beaten after asking two neighbors to keep it down. The two men were making noise outside their apartment, and attacked the other resident, hitting him several times in the face, driving him to the ground. All other larceny
Two apparently inebriated men walked into a Savannah Highway diner in the early morning, ordered 12 dollars worth of food and began being loud and offensive to one of the employees. They then went into the bathroom, where they apparently threw toilet paper and paper towels all over the sink, toilet and floor. The employee told the men they had to leave, and they did, but without paying for their food. The employee followed them into the parking lot and stood in front of their car, arms outstretched as she called 911, blocking their exit. The car drove around the employee, hitting her elbow.

Intimidation
A woman parked at a Savannah Highway dessert shop listened as the shop’s manager stood nearby, cussing and yelling into her cellphone. When the woman asked the manager to please stop cussing, she said the manager yelled at her to “shut the [expletive] up, bitch, or I will kill you.” The manager told police that she had been arguing on the phone with her daughter, and while she did curse at the woman, she said she never threatened her life.
