The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
September 23 |  Simple assault
At a West Ashley school-bus stop, two 11-year-olds became embroiled in a fight with each other when a high school student, whose stop was down the street, jumped in and punched one of the younger kids in the head. When the middle school bus pulled up, the high schooler left and walked down the street to his stop. When the kids got to school, several versions of the altercation were floated, but another student happened to have recorded the incident with his laptop. The mother of the kid punched in the head has decided to press charges against the older boy.
September 23 |  Breaking and entering
A woman living in a Park Dale Drive apartment called and told police someone had broken into her unit through a broken kitchen window. During a walk-through of her unit, the woman claimed several different brands of video game consoles had been stolen, along with several games, and a “bottle of Ciroc pineapple vodka.”

Police responded to a Savannah Highway grocery store where a man wanted to turn himself over to authorities. When the responding officer arrived, the man presented himself calmly, and handed over his identification, which resulted in the officer finding a warrant for his arrest on Folly Beach. When the officer asked why the man was turning himself in, the man responded simply, “it was the right thing to do.”
September 25 | Simple assault
Police responded to a Dogwood Road apartment where the mother of a special needs child claimed her son’s teacher had assaulted him. The mother told police that a few days earlier, the teacher had come over to her apartment to work with her son. When the two started the lesson, the mother retired to the kitchen where she soon heard a loud “smack.” Running into the living room, the son claimed the teacher had slapped him. The mother claimed that the teacher tried to explain what had happened, but she asked her to leave immediately. The mother said she had waited a few days because she didn’t want the teacher “locked up.”
September 25 | Trespass
Workers at a light-construction office on Savannah Highway reported that a man had walked into their business, walked to a back private office, and sat down without permission or comment. One of the employees went to investigate, and upon approach, the man ducked down behind the desk saying he had “dropped his lighter.” When police arrived and asked the man for some identification, the man supplied false information. The man was soon arrested, and his blue beach cruiser bike, which he had left outside, was confiscated.
September 25 | Telephone calls, obscene
A Longbend Drive woman told police that another woman had called her 32 times in one day and left her a text message, which read: “I’LL BE COMING TO YOUR CHURCH TO LET THE CONGREGATION KNOW YOUR [sic] A CHEATING FIRST LADY.” The caller has apparently been accusing the woman of cheating with her man since 2004.
September 25 | Robbery, felonious assault
A Fifth Avenue trailer park resident told police that he and three other men had been robbed at gunpoint the night before in their trailer. When police arrived at the trailer, two of the victims were still asleep and had to be awoken.
September 26 | Weapon possession, disturbing school
Police have arrested two 16-year-olds for bringing a BB pistol to school. One of the teens was charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds; the other teen was charged with carrying a concealed weapon on school grounds and disturbing school.
