The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects
are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
August 9 Impersonation
A woman living in a Trailmore Drive trailer park reported that someone had used her name and Social Security number to take out a $33,000 mortgage.
August 9 Shoplifting
Police reviewing security camera footage at a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard department store saw how a man shoplifted $829 in women’s purses. The man carried the purses to the front door, stacked them on the floor, and then passed them around the theft protection alarm and into a waiting shopping cart. Once he had 14 purses in the cart, he walked through the device and pushed the cart out the door and out of camera range.

General information
Police responded to a Savannah Highway address after receiving a call about a potentially suicidal man. Upon arrival, the man said he had been hospitalized in the past for making suicidal comments following a breakup with his ex-girlfriend, but that he was feeling better and didn’t need any help. A friend of the man showed police a series of texts he had recently received from the man that included this message: “Hey bro I’m sorry I need to leave, I’ll always love you … see you on the other side.” The friend said the man suffers from PTSD, also.
August 10 Open container
Police arrived at Northbridge Park and found a man asleep next to a couple of empty beer bottles with his penis exposed. The man said he’d come to the park to do some fishing and that he must’ve fallen asleep and that his penis was out because he probably attempted to urinate earlier and unwittingly left the zipper down.

All other larceny
An employee at a state facility located on Savannah Highway found his work truck missing, its front left tire and the truck’s brake assembly sitting out on a cinder block.
August 10
Aggravated assault
A man attacked another man with a 2-foot-long machete on Treescape Drive as the second man was attempting to break up a fight between a mother and daughter who lived there. The machete, later found in the yard, left a 4-inch laceration on the second man’s forearm. The first man admitted to having swung the machete, but that he didn’t mean to hit or harm the other man.

Sex offender, forcible rape
A woman ran into traffic near the intersection of Marginal and McLeod roads near Savannah Highway, asking for help, and saying she’d just been raped. She was transported to the hospital.
August 10
Drug, narcotics violation
Police arrived at a Skylark Drive parking lot to find a man slumped over in the front seat of his car, with his face pointing toward the floorboards. The man had four syringes in his hand, and a metal spoon in plain view. When police went to the passenger side of the car, they knocked on the window, causing the female passenger to look up in a confused manner.
