Earlier this month 41 teams competed in the third annual Charleston Challenge SeaPerch Competition. This event showcased the skills of building Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and testing their ability to complete specialized underwater tasks. The building of the ROV incorporated engineering skills, and supports the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), which is being heavily promoted in all schools across Charleston County. The competition included middle and high school divisions.
CE Williams Middle School for Creative and Scientific Arts placed first in the poster presentation, where students explained the technical processes involved and the teamwork needed to build and design the ROV. CE Williams also earned third place in the obstacle course, which tested the mechanical ability to navigate underwater obstacle courses.
