Gooseberry set to bring their Brooklyn alt-rock sound to Tin Roof on April 20

from Staff Reports

A rising indie rock act out of New York City is making its way to West Ashley later this month, as Gooseberry takes the stage at Tin Roof on Monday, April 20, joined by opening bands Recess Party and Dog Named Squid.

Formed in Brooklyn in the fall of 2019, Gooseberry has steadily carved out a place in the city’s crowded music scene with a sound that blends alternative rock, indie, and blues. The trio—Asa Daniels (guitar, vocals), Evin Rossington (drums), and Will Hammond (bass)—has built a following through energetic live shows and a growing catalog of releases.

That momentum has translated beyond New York. The band has amassed millions of streams and earned attention from outlets like Under the Radar and Galore, while also landing on bills with national touring acts including Ringo Starr, BabyJake, and Tanner Usrey. Gooseberry has also headlined notable venues such as the Bowery Ballroom.

In September 2024, the group released its debut full-length album, All My Friends Are Cattle, showcasing the band’s wide-ranging musical instincts. From punchy, guitar-driven tracks to more atmospheric and experimental moments, the album reflects a band comfortable moving between genres without losing its edge.

“So much of making something is about finding an audience for your work so it can be chewed on and held and loved and talked about. But that can’t happen if no one ever hears it,’ said Daniels, speaking about the album’s title track.

Recorded over three months in New York City, the album features contributions from a slate of experienced producers and engineers, including Grammy-winning and nominated collaborators who helped shape its polished but gritty sound.

Early singles like “Kikiyon” offered a preview of what listeners could expect, and the full release has continued to gain traction, already surpassing more than a million streams.

With a reputation for dynamic performances and a sound that nods to 1990s alternative influences while pushing into new territory, Gooseberry arrives in West Ashley this month as a band on the rise, one that’s as comfortable delivering high-energy rock as it is exploring more layered, introspective material.

Gooseberry will play along with Recess Party and Dog Named Squid on Monday, April 20 at Tin Roof, located at 1117 Magnolia Road. For more information, call (843) 571-0775 or visit www.charlestontinroof.com. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day of show.
