This fall Old Towne Creek County Park turned select Tuesdays into “Brewsdays,” and select Wednesdays became “Wine Down Wednesdays.” Over the next couple weeks, the final installment of each will take place at Old Towne Creek County Park, which is not yet regularly open to the public.
The final Wine Down Wednesday of the year will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 with live music from Hunter Hill. Admission is $15 for Charleston Country residents in advance and $20 day of and for non-residents. Wine, hors d’oeuvres, and a commemorative wine glass are included.
The Brewsday previously set for Oct. 6 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3 as a result of the flooding. The final Brewsday of the year will take place from 5-7 p.m. and feature live music from Rene Russell, craft beer, and tasty eats from the Kickin’ Chicken food truck. Admission to Brewsday is $6 per person. Charleston County residents can purchase advance tickets for $5 each. Charleston County Parks’ Gold Pass members are free of charge. Food and beverages are available on site for an additional fee.
Old Towne Creek County Park, formerly Ashem Farm, was home to Charleston preservationist Emily Ravenel Farrrow and her St. Andrews Riding Academy. Located in West Ashley, the 67-acre estate is dotted with open fields mixed among groves of Live Oaks. The public is invited to come be inspired by the legacy of the Lowcountry’s nature and history with views from the park of South Carolina’s first English settlement at Charles Towne Landing, and the winding of Old Towne Creek through the salt marsh. Currently, Old Towne Creek County Park is only open for special events and private rentals, but will one day be a county park available for regular use.
Old Towne Creek County Park is located at 1400 Old Towne Road. For more information on Brewsday or Wine Down Wednesday, or to purchase admission tickets in advance, call 795-4386 and visit www.charlestoncountyparks.com.
