Get Crafty West Ashley

On Sunday, June 8, Michaels Arts & Crafts celebrated the grand opening of its newest store at 832 Orleans Road in West Ashley appropriately by cutting a ribbon.
Until last weekend, crafters in West Ashley had to drive to either Mt. Pleasant or North Charleston to find a Michaels, North America’s largest specialty retailer of arts, crafts, framing, home décor, and seasonal products for hobbyists and DIY decorators. The new Michaels is located in the former Books-A-Million space near Best Buy and boasts a new store design that features an open design with wider aisles, warm colors and brighter lighting. Key departments have been expanded and re-organized for easy shopping. The store is 20,584 square feet and will employ more than 60 people.
“We are thrilled to be joining West Ashley community and we hope everyone will come out to help us celebrate during our grand opening week,” said District Manager Al Warren. “Our new store features thousands of products that will inspire every crafter at any level from beginner to expert, plus classes for our customers to learn new skills in painting, cake decorating, knitting, scrapbooking and more.”
On Sunday Michaels gave away more than $1,000 in gift cards and prizes hourly throughout the day. In addition, customers won items from the “Plinko” prize board, including jewelry, art supplies, stickers, and more. Attendees captured the fun at the Michaels photo booth and shared on social media using the hashtag #GetCraftyWestAshley.
The celebration continues throughout this week with free in-store craft demos through Friday from 6-8 p.m. Customers can enter to win a special gift basket all week long to be given away each evening. On Saturdays kids can explore their creativity with $2 Kids Club crafting events that continue all year long.
