The Easter Eggstravaganza at Middleton Place is a cherished Spring tradition, one that coincides with the start of Azalea season with all of its rich Spring colors. On Saturday, April 4, families are invited to visit Middleton Place and take part in an exciting day of Easter traditions, including the massive Egg Hunt.
All children participating should bring their own Easter basket. Gates open at 9 a.m. with the Easter Eggstravaganza starting at 10:30 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m.
After a brief orientation, the Easter Bunny will be on hand to kick-off the egg hunts, which are in three age groups to allow each child a good chance at success. They will search for hundreds of un-dyed eggs hidden in secret places around Middleton Place’s live oaks and manicured lawns. No plastic eggs here — Middleton Place’s Egg Hunt is ecofriendly, using real, hard-boiled eggs.
One yellow and one blue ceramic, hand-painted prize eggs will also be hidden in age group. Prizes will be given to each child who finds one of these special eggs. The children who find one of these special eggs will receive a prize, and their family will be registered for a drawing to win the Grand Prize: a Middleton Place Foundation annual membership for four.
After the hunt, children and their parents are invited to the Plantation Stableyards where the Easter fun will continue. Children will color their discovered eggs in natural dyes used in colonial days. There will be Easter crafts and an egg roll down Middleton Place’s iconic, green terraces and an egg toss on the greensward in front of the House Museum.  Additionally, children can play colonial games in the Plantation Stableyards.
The Easter Bunny will be on hand throughout the day to meet and greet children. Professional photographer Marie Rodriguez will be on hand from 10-11 a.m. to capture the moment for any child wishing to have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.
Families are welcome to linger at Middleton Place and delight in the day’s regular activities all afternoon. Visitors can take a tour of the Gardens and see the colorful azalea display, view heritage breed livestock, visit the artisan craft shops in the Stableyards, or tour the House Museum.
The event is free with general admission, for Middleton Place Foundation members and guests of the Inn at Middleton Place. For more information about the Eggstravaganza, call 556-6020 or visit  www.MiddletonPlace.org.
