A West Ashley man, Richard Williams, 40, died last week in a driveway near his N. Avalon Circle home in what law enforcement believes may have been a drug deal gone bad.
Responding to a report of shots fired, police arrived on the scene last Wednesday afternoon and found Williams shot and laying face down in the driveway, unresponsive. The county coroner’s office pronounced him dead of a gunshot wound.
Police on Friday arrested a North Charleston man, Walter Williamson, 32, in connection with the slaying.
Witnesses placed Williamson’s car at the scene, and, according to police reports, he admitted to having been in the area and having had contact with Williams that day.
Williamson has been reportedly charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Additionally, police towed a car away from the scene for processing after a search warrant was obtained in reference to a narcotics arrest. Additionally, according to police reports, two and a half pounds of marijuana was also seized at the scene.
