The Doughnut Dash epitomizes the test of physical fitness and gastrointestinal fortitude. Runner and walkers of all ages and skill levels are invited to compete individually or as a team. The race will be held from  8-10:30 a.m.on Sunday, April 10. It will start and end at the South Windemere Shopping Center. Participants take on the challenge of a 5K run/walk with a stop at Krispy Kreme for a dozen delicious doughnuts and then make their way back to the finish line “glazed and satisfied.”
While it’s technically exercising, there are 190 calories in a single glazed donut. A dozen of them would be about 2,280 calories. So while you might not necessarily be coming away from the run/walk in better shape, you will likely have a good time.
Prizes will be awarded to: Top two overall male and female, top two in each age category, and top two teams. Registration is $25 and $15 for youth and students (must have ID) and includes an event T-shirt. There is also a team registration (2-4 people) for $45. Additional T-shirts can be purchased for $10. Parking available in the shopping center.
A portion of the funds raised will be donated to the Tywanza Sanders Scholarship Fund, which offers funding to area youth for educational programming as well as college scholarships for students from James Island Charter High School.
