The Optimist Club of West Ashley recently honored seven local students for their strong community involvement and service.
The club has been honoring local youth through the national Youth Appreciation program for more than 50 years, as well as hosting annual oratorical and essay contests to promote “quality and attitude of optimism.”
The seven students were selected on the basis of their volunteering and service within local healthcare, recreation, and human service organizations. Those assembled at the event were reminded that while the youth “represents 25 percent of our population, [they are] 100 percent of our future.”
This year’s honorees are: Elizabeth Hinson, Emma Catherine Scott, Sophia Berg, Zuri Anderson, Nidhiben Patel, Sandy Jing-Hui Pang, and Joshua Amos.
The honorees may receive college education scholarships in the future from the club.
