City of Charleston staffers have unveiled an online survey to gauge interest in a farmer’s market being held somewhere in West Ashley.
Mandi Herring, the West Ashley-specific planner at City Hall said that the community wants a farmer’s market, and that City Council wants one. Now, city government wants to define the right timing, location, and availability in West Ashley for a farmer’s market.
The “community perception survey” is a quick one, asking respondents to answer questions to their preferred locations and hours of business.
Herring said that part of the process is also to make sure the site and hours have good parking and don’t negatively impact adjacent neighborhoods or traffic patterns.
She said research was also being done to see which and how many farmers would be available for possible times and locations.
Other private efforts to hold farmer’s markets in West Ashley have met with limited success, especially compared to the ones held on Marion Square and in Mt. Pleasant.
