Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. proclaimed May 12, 2015 “Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School Day” in the city of Charleston.
The proclamation recognizes Ashley River for more than 30 years of excellent educational services to the students of West Ashley, and for its nationally recognized excellence in the field of high quality arts integrated education and leadership in arts education. The award was accepted by Principal Catherine Middleton at a presentation.
Ashley River, a public magnet school in Charleston, is celebrating its 31st year as an arts integrated school. The school has been the subject of national magazine articles and has been featured in college textbooks for its innovative approach to education through the arts.
