Amor Healing Kitchen’s Mother’s Day picnic package offers fresh, plant-based fare
from Staff Reports
A West Ashley nonprofit known for nourishing both body and community is inviting locals to slow down and celebrate Mother’s Day a little differently this year.
AMOR Healing Kitchen will host a Mother’s Day-themed picnic as part of its “Grab & Grow” series, offering a seasonal, plant-based meal designed for families to enjoy together outdoors. The event blends a relaxed springtime outing with the organization’s larger mission of connecting food, health, and community.
The picnic packages are built around fresh, plant-based ingredients, and include Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Fresh Herb Tzatziki, Hearts of Palm Ceviche, Toasted Spice Quinoa Salad, Fudgy Beet “Love” Truffles, and locally-sourced kombucha. You can add a freshly made-to-order bouquet of local flowers from Bear Swamp Flower Farm for $20.
Amor prepares meals using in-season produce, often sourced from local farms, with an emphasis on nutrition and accessibility. Rather than a traditional sit-down event, the format encourages guests to take their meals to a park, backyard, or beach and make the experience their own.
Founded in Charleston, AMOR Healing Kitchen has spent the past eight years providing free, organic, plant-based meals to individuals facing serious health challenges, regardless of their ability to pay. The organization’s work is powered in part by teen volunteers who help prepare meals each week, learning about nutrition and community service along the way.
Events like the Mother’s Day picnic serve a dual purpose: offering the community a chance to engage with AMOR’s food philosophy while also helping support its broader mission. Proceeds and participation help fund meal programs that reach residents across the Charleston area, including West Ashley, James Island, and beyond.
While the picnic centers on a celebratory holiday, the tone remains consistent with AMOR’s year-round focus—thoughtful, intentional, and rooted in care. For many, the appeal lies not just in the food itself, but in the idea behind it: meals prepared with attention to both nourishment and connection.
The event is part of AMOR’s ongoing “Grab & Grow” series, which offers seasonal, ready-to-enjoy meals tied to holidays and community gatherings. It’s a format that reflects the organization’s belief that good food can be both practical and meaningful, whether it’s delivered to someone in need or shared on a blanket under the spring sun.
For those looking to mark Mother’s Day with something a little more laid-back and intentional, the picnic offers a simple option: good food, fresh air, and a chance to support a local cause.
Mother’s Day picnics start at $75 and are available for delivery ($10) or free pick-up at Amore Healing Kitchen, located at 2 Magnolia Road on Friday, May 8. For more information or to place an order, visit www.amorhealingkitchen.org/grab-and-grow/p/mothers-day-picnic.
