Magnolia Integrative Medicine brings affordable holistic health care to the West Ashley

A new medical practice located in West Ashley is redefining healthcare access with a mission to deliver holistic medical care that’s also affordable and accessible to all people.
Dr. LaShana Wilder and Dr. Sarah Green Ellis co-founded Magnolia Integrative Medicine, located at 1064 Gardner Road, Suite 208, with an inspiring mission: “to provide thoughtful, affordable, and personalized integrative care that honors the whole person.”
The inspiration to open the practice came from the desire to close a gap in the healthcare system as the doctors both observed that high quality holistic medical care was typically something that only the wealthy could afford to have access to.
“We wanted to open up a practice that would give everyone equal access to quality of health care, not just isolated to those who could afford it. Seeing those kinds of disparities within the healthcare system—gaps amongst the underserved communities—we wanted to fill those gaps,” Wilder said. “A lot of underserved communities do not get access to quality health care on a regular basis.”
Rather than simply treating symptoms, the practice aims to identify the root causes of health issues for a long term solution. “Integrative medicine and holistic medicine is a type of health care that centers the whole person,” Ellis said. “So rather than focusing on a patient’s symptoms, we look at trying to find the root cause.”
Wilder explained that integrative medicine is simply the traditional medical approach with an additional “toolbox”.
“We integrate holistic practices within the allopathic medicine model. It’s just an additional toolbox that can be applied to the traditional model,” Wilder said.
“It really is a beautiful marriage of natural medicine and modern medicine,” Ellis added.
What sets Magnolia Integrative Medicine apart is their continuous commitment to accessibility. In order to be accessible to all communities, the practice accepts most major medical insurance carriers, making it one of the few integrative medical clinics in the Lowcountry to do so.
“We wanted to provide an affordable option for folks in the lowcountry who wanted to take a natural approach to their health care,” Dr. Ellis said.
At Magnolia, patients can expect a welcoming and compassionate environment that fosters genuine connection and trust between patients and their providers.
“We wanted to be able to give a culturally centered way for people to gain trust in the medical system—to have practitioners that are from where you’re from,” said Dr. Wilder. “And make it more of a welcoming, homey environment for people who otherwise wouldn’t have that.”
To celebrate their grand opening, the practice hosted a week full of community-centered events to initiate connection and education last month. Themed “Rooted in All of Us,” the week-long celebration included events such as a nature walk with the doctors, a holistic health panel, and a live cooking demonstration featuring nutritional and healing meals.
Wilder shared that they were overjoyed with all the participation in the events, stating, “It was just a really empowering and amazing opening week.”
With a mission to offer compassionate care, clinical excellence and widespread accessibility, Magnolia Integrative Medicine is taking a huge step in the movement for health equity in the Lowcountry.
