Ashley River Baptist Church in West Ashley is hosting a special memorial concert to honor the victims of the Emanuel AME shooting at 4 p.m. on Saturday July 18. The concert will feature members of Colour of Music Festival Orchestra, the Charleston Spiritual Ensemble, and the Charleston Gospel Choir, as well as members of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and other local musicians. Lowcountry native and current assistant conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Joseph Young will be the program’s director. Sopranos Lori C. Hicks and Kimwana Doner-Chandler and baritone Kenneth Overtone will perform.
The program will include spirituals, gospel songs, and orchestra music.
The concert is free and open to the community but donations are accepted and will go to the Emanuel AME Church Memorial Fund. Tickets are required for entry and can be picked up at the Charleston County Public Library, 68 Calhoun St.
