Looking back on a decade of collecting stories and photographs

You are this community’s reservoir of information.

You have been sharing your stories, beautiful memories, photographs, scrapbooks, and mementoes of St. Andrew’s Parish. Because of your generosity I have been able to tell these stories to the community in Byrnes Downs and West Ashley, two books that are part of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series, and through this West Ashley Flashback column for the last 10 years. Yes, 10 years!

But just when you think all the stories have been told, an email arrives, a phone call comes in or you meet someone who has yet another story.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words (this column never quite reaches that number). From anniversary celebrations, to team sport photographs, to weather events, to community construction, to school photographs, these windows into the past tell a story or stimulate a memory.

Let’s start 2022 with some photographs and keep this conversation going.
