Twelve West Ashley High School seniors graduated from the six-week Teach the Need program on Tuesday, December 8th. The Teach the Need program is designed for seniors interested in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. Mickey Bakst from the Charleston Grill and Michael Miller, one of the CCSD School Board members, presented the graduates with their certificates.
Students involved in the program met every other week during their 2nd period class.
They learned about the hospitality industry, but more importantly, they learned about soft skills that they will need in order to compete in the business world. For example, they completed a resume, interviewed for a job, discussed proper employee behavior, etc. During one of the six sessions the group of students got to go on a field trip to the Charleston Place Hotel for a tour and a lunch at the Charleston Grill.
At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to apply for a job at select restaurants that are sponsored by the Hospitality Association.
