A visit to most local law offices doesn’t usually involve exposure to good art. There’s usually a painting of a pineapple on the wall. Or of puppies resting in hunting boots.
Snore.
Real estate closing attorney Raymond Smith will change all that in his new Orleans Road office this Friday.
“Seriously, is there a pineapple fountain-based art factory?” laughs Smith.
Smith and his wife have contacted local artiste Phillip Hyman to bring several local painters and photographers’ work to their walls.
Smith said Hyman’s work, which tends toward the rawer and more fantastical, caught their eye at a local restaurant where the multimedia artist had curated a collection.
Hyman said he was excited for another venue to showcase local artists, and contacted James Christopher Hill, perhaps best known for his mural on Planet Follywood, photographer Mahmood Fazal, as well as painter M.C. Churchill-Nash, and Linda Davis and Donna Jones, among others.
“Whenever I’m asked to do something like this, I try to make it fold out to include others,” said Hyman, who is perhaps best known for his enormous spray foam monsters.
Both Hyman and Smith hope homebuyers will be impressed by what they see on the walls of the office and potentially become art buyers and fill their walls with a new piece of art.
If you are interested in attending, a gathering will be held Friday, Jan. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at Smith’s Cooperative Title LLC, located at 874 Orleans Road, Suite 4.
