Rose & the Nightingale are four powerful New York based multi-instrumentalists and improvisers: Jody Redhage (voice, cello, compositions), Leala Cyr (voice, trumpet), Sara Caswell (violin, mandolin), & Laila Biali (voice, piano). The band’s warm sound of three part vocal harmonies, intricate arrangements, and burning solos connects with the audience. The quartet will be in Charleston this Saturday, March 21 for a special performance in The Conservatory at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.
The band’s current project, Spirit of the Garden, inspired by Botanic Gardens, blurs the boundaries of jazz, folk, world, and chamber music.  The performance integrates poetry about gardens and nature as the lyrics to the songs, as inspiration for improvised interludes, and as thematic threads through the concert.
The concert at Magnolia will also feature select young musicians from Ashley Hall, with whom Rose and the Nightingale will be working as guest artists during the week of March 15-22.
Rose & the Nightingale performs Spirit of the Garden Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at The Conservatory at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, located at 3550 Ashley River Road. For more information, visit 571-1266 or visit www.magnoliaplantation.com.
