Folks, some times humorous things happen that just fall into your lap. You don’t have to seek them out and probably couldn’t make them up on your best day. For example, this morning I placed a call to a large business concern that I have dealings with. I knew enough to hit the “0” button so I cold speak to a human and have my call forwarded to the department I wished to contact.
The operator was pleasant enough, but perhaps it was my slow southern drawl that caused a hiccup. I introduced myself and stated my business. We obviously had a disconnect as she asked me where I was calling from. To my way of thinking, there was only one answer to her question. I told her, “From my phone.” She did not hesitate and patched me through. I kid you not.
Last week on the radio I heard a news story about the gang activity in the North Area. One man who was interviewed had it spot on. He lamented the rise in violence and stated that the police were doing all they could do to combat the thuggery. No additional law enforcement were needed because they were already on it “twenty -four twenty- four.” I trust the police are also out there the other days of the month.
As you are probably aware, I’m conservative in my political leanings. My endorsements for offices may or may not come out in future writings. However, allow me to make a few observations. I see where the National Education Association (NEA) has gone ahead and endorsed the democratic candidate for one of our U.S. Senate seats. No surprise there. No matter who the candidates are, those leftist people will always support a democrat. To any dues-paying teacher who does not tow the liberal line, how do you feel about your tribute always being used to support those who do not share your values?
I may be incorrect on this final thought because I did not stop by and ask questions. But if my old-aged memory serves me correctly, I was last wrong in 2008 when I thought the American people surely were not dumb enough to elect a community organizer with a funny name and a socialist agenda to our nation’s highest office. But I digress …
It appears to me that the Triangle Bowling Lanes on Savannah Highway has seen it’s last pin fall. Another adolescent icon may have bitten the dust. Gosh, it seems like only yesterday when I perfected the fine are of the gutter ball at that establishment.
