On Monday, March 9 the Charleston Elks Lodge 242 in West Ashley will be honoring Deputy Joseph Matuskovic who gave his life in the line of duty and Deputy Michael Ackerman who was wounded on Sept. 8, 2014 when he and Matuskovic were responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex at the intersection of Ashley River Road and Carriage Lane.
The parents of Deputy Matuskovic, who served in law enforcement for 17 years, were on hand to receive the award. Deputy Ackerman was also present to receive the award from the Elks Lodge president James (Jim) Davis at the new Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center located at 3691 Leeds Avenue in North Charleston
“This year’s recipients, Deputy Michael Ackerman and Joseph Matuskovic, who paid the ultimate price are the heroes of our society and along with other law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line each and every day,” said Davis. “This is truly an honor to present this most prestigious award to the family of Joe and to Michael.”
