Magnolia Plantation to host beginner-friendly photography workshop series

from Staff Reports

If you’re curious about finally learning what all those camera buttons do, you will have a chance to sharpen your skills this month. Magnolia Plantation & Gardens hosts a three-part Introduction to Photography series on Saturdays, March 7, 14, and 21, from 9-11 a.m. The hands-on workshop will be led by local award-winning photographer Jim Miller and is designed for beginners as well as those looking to move beyond automatic camera settings.

Participants will explore photography fundamentals such as exposure, composition, and lens choices while learning how to confidently adjust settings like ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. The class also introduces basic photo-editing concepts and practical techniques for creating more visually compelling images.

The course aims to demystify photography for everyday users, whether they’re working with a mirrorless camera, a DSLR, or even a smartphone. Students are encouraged to bring their own cameras and an open mind as sessions build on one another throughout the three-week series.

Miller, a longtime Lowcountry nature and travel photographer, has spent more than four decades along the South Carolina coast and frequently shares his expertise through workshops and community presentations.

The classes will take place at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, located at 3550 Ashley River Road, with complimentary garden admission included for participants. Space is limited, and advance registration is recommended.
