The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
July 8 Theft from a building
A resident of an Ashley Crossing Road elderly care facility claimed that during the night she had spotted an employee “rummaging” through her things. In the morning, the resident reported that an $8,000 ring was missing.
July 8 Injured party
Police responded to a Sylvan Shores Drive home after a woman living there reported that her son had taken some pills and was trying to hurt himself. He reportedly told his mother that if “the police come, I am going to attack them.” Searching the property, police discovered the son jumping a fence back into his mother’s yard while holding a kitchen knife. When the son refused to drop the knife, he was struck in the leg and chest with darts from a TASER. He later admitted to taking three Ambien and having had a couple of bourbon drinks, but stressed he was not suicidal.
July 8 Attempted suicide
A West Ashley mom called police after receiving a series of disturbing texts from her daughter.
Mom: “Call me”
Daughter: “Im sorry”
Mom: “For”
Daughter: “What I just did”
Daughter: “I took pills”
Police reported the daughter had taken 18 of an over-the-counter sleep-aid.

Threatening calls,
obscene, harassing
A woman who just moved to West Ashley told police that she’d been receiving a series of upsetting and threatening text messages from a man who claimed to be a debt collector. The messages included ones where the man was “watching” the woman, and ones that included the names of the woman’s dog and roommate. Police noted the woman was still receiving threatening texts while they were talking with her.
July 9 Bomb threat
A woman working at a Savannah Highway church called police to say a suspicious man had entered the main worship area, proceeded to a holy water urn, and left behind a suitcase before going to the bathroom and leaving, all without speaking to another person. Police called in their bomb squad, evacuated the building, and sent in a remote control robot to retrieve the suitcase, which was later found to be empty.
July 9 Weapons law violation
Police responded to a Savannah Highway motel after receiving a report of loud music and a single shot fired in the pool area. Upon arrival, police interviewed two men, one of whom admitted to having been drinking and armed. The “grossly inebriated” man unlocked his nearby car, where police found a .45-caliber handgun on the floor of the backseat.
July 10
Family offense,
non-violent
Police attempted to reunite a runaway teen with her North Charleston mother at a West Ashley coffee shop. The teen had been staying with her aunt, and said she had run away because if she didn’t she felt she would have killed herself. The girl reported to still be experiencing suicidal thoughts.
July 10 Shoplifting
Clerks at a West Ashley charity store spotted a pregnant woman sporting yoga pants walking around the store in a pair of unpaid-for boots that still had store price tags attached to them. The woman was also carrying a backpack with clothing hanging out the back, but without tags on them. The woman was asked to return the boots and leave the store
