The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.

Criminal domestic violence
An Ashley Plantation Road man told police that the mother of his child arrived at his apartment, and angry that he had a new girlfriend, began banging on the door. When the man refused to let the woman into his apartment, she apparently threw a can of paint at the door, and then broke the glass front door with a ladder. When police arrived, the two were in the parking lot screaming at each other.

Debit card fraud
Police met with a woman at her Maclaura Road residence in reference to a report of her debit card being used fraudulently at a nearby grocery store. Police were able to surmise that a man using a “cloned” card attempted to purchase two $100 gift cards, as well as “diapers, condoms, and female hygiene products” earlier that day. An unsuccessful attempt to use the card was recorded soon after at another nearby grocery store.
January 7
Weapons law violation
Police responded to a report of two men firing a “long gun” in the woods near the intersection of Bees Ferry Road and the West Ashley Traffic Circle near the Grand Oaks neighborhood. When they arrived, an officer noticed two men exiting the woods, who said they hadn’t been firing a gun and were taking a shortcut to the Wal-Mart across the street. The officer soon found a .22 caliber rifle on the ground 30 yards away from where the two men had been spotted, along with several beer cans which had been used for target practice.

Theft from a motor vehicle
A Glen Oaks Court man told police that someone had entered his vehicle parked at his residence and removed his $1,000 handgun from the center console. The man said the handgun was .45-caliber fully loaded with aluminum “hollow point home defense rounds,” including a round in the chamber and a full magazine.
January 7
Shoplifting
An employee at a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard grocery store reported a customer loading up his cart with seven cases of Monster Energy drinks, valued at $18 a piece. When the employee confronted the man in the parking lot as he was getting into an SUV, the employee grabbed six of the cases, the man making off with the seventh.
January 7
Drug violation
Twelve officers, ranging from patrolmen to ranking officers, entered a Saint Clair Drive apartment occupied by two men on an apparent drug raid. The officers found several digital scales, piles of clear plastic baggies, several handguns, and a cache of drugs and cash. In one part of the apartment, officers discovered 22 grams of what tested positive for cocaine in a six-ounce Planters nuts container.
January 7
Robbery with a firearm
Several friends gathered at a Westchase Drive apartment reported that two men brandishing firearms forced their way into the unit, ordered them to lay on the ground, and then robbed them at gunpoint. Reported taken were several expensive mobile phones, a laptop computer, as well as several wallets. No one was shot or hurt in the incident.
