This week’s West Of‘s Athlete of the Week is senior Caleb Goude, one of West Ashley High School’s Varsity top baseball players. Recently during the Hanahan Invitational Tournament, Goude did his part to ensure that the Wildcats would come out on top.
At the tournament, the WAHS Varsity Baseball Team finished with a record of 4-1. Goude finished the tournament with a .500 batting average (he had seven hits out of 14 times at the plate), five walks, eight runs batted in, and a grand slam.
“Caleb hits at the top of our lineup and is the catalyst for our team,” says West Ashley High Varsity Baseball Coach Tyson Azevedo. “When he is able to get on base, he puts a lot of pressure on other teams.”
After 14 years of playing baseball, Goude’s raw talent and passion for playing the game have been a trademark of his high school baseball career.
“Caleb has done a good job at the plate and continues to improve his leadership skills. He is a great defender and serves as our Captain in the outfield while patrolling centerfield,” says Azevedo.
When asked what his hobbies are, Goude says, “all I do is play baseball.” However, next year Goude will attend the University of South Carolina, where he plans to learn how take his love of sports to the professional level, majoring in athletic training.
