Thumbs Up to Re-trend, the clothing swap held Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Tin Roof. The swap was a hit, with ladies and gents of all ages bringing their gently used clothes to trade for gems brought by others. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I walked away with a Nine West leather purse, some funky wooden earrings, and two dresses. Not bad at all for a $1 entrance fee. Thumbs Up to Antoinette Tuff, the Georgia school-bookkeeper who talked a potential school gunman, Michael Hill, into surrendering himself this past week rather than go on a shooting spree with the AK-47 he had brought to the school. Tuff is the definition of grace under pressure and a role model for the rest of us. She calmly talked to Hill and shared her own life struggles. If you haven’t listened to the 9-1-1 recording of Tuff talking to Hill, I strongly encourage you to do so. Her strength of character and love of humanity come across as she single-handedly saved countless lives.
Lastly, Thumbs Up to Charleston! Not only are we the #1 Top Destination in the World by Conde Nast Traveler and we have the best looking people according to Time Magazine , but it was just announced that Charleston has the lowest gas prices in the entire country. So, we look good, gas is cheap, and it’s a great place to be. Tell us something we don’t know!

Thumbs Down this past week to the heat! Please, please Charleston, give us a respite. OK, maybe I’m being overly dramatic. We did get a little spoiled this summer with all the rain because it cooled things off, but I can’t take this heat anymore! I love the beach and barbecues, but I’m tired of sweating all the time! It’s so muggy, hot, and humid. I guess what I’m saying is I’m really looking forward to fall. I’m ready for campfires, cookouts, and tons of pumpkin-spiced food and drinks. So, back off summer, let’s ease into cooler days already.
