The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left off to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty, of course.
October 1 | Robbery with a firearm
Two women living in a Hazelwood Drive apartment said three men wearing masks burst in on them with guns drawn. The women said they had been busy putting shoes on one of their daughter’s feet.

October 1 | Theft from building
A Dogwood Drive woman called police after finding her front door kicked in. The woman told police she suspected a former roommate caused the damage after she “put him out” recently. The woman said the television the man had bought for the apartment was missing, too.
October 1 | Criminal domestic violence
Police responded to a disturbance at an Ashley Town Center Drive grocery store, where an employee reported having seen a woman being dragged through the parking lot by a car. The woman told police that she and her live-in boyfriend became embroiled in a heated argument after she accused him of cheating. The argument soon escalated to a physical altercation, and because of the different stories the couple told, police arrested both of them.
October 1 | Injured party
A lawn worker called police after finding the West Ashley woman he did work for unavailable. The worker was concerned because the woman had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. When police arrived, they found the woman’s car secured in the garage, and her keys, phone, and walker inside. Concerned, the officers gained access to the house and found items lain about as if the woman had packed up and left. A call to a family member uncovered that the woman was convalescing in a nearby rehabilitation facility.
October 1 Simple assault
Police responding to a disturbance at an Ashley River Road pub saw a suspected offender rip off a piece of fence boarding in an attempt to flee. When they corralled the man, he was inebriated, nonsensical, and spewing obscenities. When the man attempted to walk off again, an officer restrained him by grabbing his belt from behind. An employee of the pub said the man had cut him earlier after the customer had taken a “swing” at him.
October 2  | Assisting other agencies
Police arrested the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the middle of the road beside a Forbes Avenue convenience store. The man said he had gone to the store to buy beer. A check of the man’s identification found a pending state parole violation and an active county warrant from family court.
October 2 | DUI
A hit-and-run involving a moped near the intersection of Savannah Highway and Pleasant Grove Lane was so severe that police called in a special unit. Six officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) arrived on the scene and their investigation continues.
October 2  | Found lost property
A Savannah Highway pawnshop returned more than $500 in stolen carpenter tools to a Mt. Pleasant craftsman. The items had been reported stolen from an East Cooper jobsite. They had been pawned for $75.
October 2  | Bad checks
An Orleans Road bank branch reported having been swindled out of more than $1,500 by a man recently. One day, the man deposited $100 to open an account. Two days later, the man comes through the drive-thru in a taxi and attempts to deposit a check for $800, and asks for $650 of it in cash. The bank refuses, and puts a hold in the check. A few days later, two other people cashed matching $600 checks from the man’s account at different branches, for which there was no funds in his account. The bank reported the man never returned phone calls for explanation.
