Two talented and highly acclaimed singer/songwriters are on the road to West Ashley this week. New Yorker Gretchen Witt and Texan Tim Miller are set to play the increasingly popular Palmetto Acoustic Series. The upcoming concert will start at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19 at Muddy Waters Coffee Bar on Ashley River Road. The concert is free and each performer will be playing a 50-minute set.

Madeline Evans, founder of the Palmetto Acoustic Series, boasted about the venue, which she says is a perfect fit for the toned-down series. Since making Muddy Waters its permanent host venue last July, the series has become one of the key stops on the Southern acoustic singer/songwriter circuit.

Palmetto Acoustic was founded in July 2007 in an effort to support and spotlight the acoustic music community. “I wanted to create an environment that caters to the independent singer/songwriter and to the fans of folk, indie, and acoustic rock,” says Evans.

She has done just that. The series is booked through September of this year, with a waiting list of more than 50 artists. Along with strong artist enthusiasm, Evans says the community has been extremely supportive and loyal to the series, resulting in great audience turnout.

Witt, based in New York City, had the Muddy Waters crowd on its feet last year at her first Palmetto Acoustic show. Classically trained on the piano, she’s an innovative lyricist, singer, and songwriter. Witt’s voice has been compared to the likes of Tracy Chapman and Natalie Merchant, but she retains a style all her own. Having recently taken up the guitar, she blends her wide range of musical talent with well-crafted songs and stirring lyrics, to create a truly memorable live show.

Dallas native Tim Miller has developed more than just a knack for singing and strumming his guitar. He has two fantastic albums under his belt, and has gained a reputation for his emotionally charged live performances. Miller’s delicate guitar work, strongly melodic vocals, and mature song writing have created a quite a following.  Miller will preview his work the morning before the show with an appearance on WCIV-TV’s “Lowcountry Live.”
